On our way to Invercargill we got to see Nugget Point, the Purakanui and Matai Falls, Slope Point and Waipapa Point.
Nugget Point: bekannt für seinen Leuchtturm und viel Wildlife. (you couldn't drive all the way to the light house but a short walk was certainly worth it.)
Direkt neben dem Wanderweg ging es gaaaaanz schön steil runter (don't step too close to the edge unless you want to go swimming with the sea lions ;-) ):
Woher kommt der Name Nugget Point? Bei der richtigen Sonneneinstrahlung leuchten die kleinen Felsen im Wasser wie Goldstücke. (Nugget Point received its name through its landscape, the little rocks in the sea are supposed to reflect the setting sunlight in golden colors, thus appearing like gigantic gold nuggets)
Glückliches Pärchen vor Goldstücken ;o) (... but who needs gold when he has found love :-))
it looks very pretty and lots of sea animals are living in this region
Auf dem Weg zu den Purakanui Falls boten sich schon schöne Blicke (after leaving Nugget Point we drove to the Purakanui Falls and again a short bush walk, which was quite beautiful lead us the the falls):
die Purakanui-Falls, die bekanntesten und hübschesten hier in der Region (ja, das Bild ist wirklich von Jürgen und nicht von irgendwo geklaut *g*) (The Purakanui Falls are very picturesque and certainly worth taking a picture of. A long time exposure made this picture possible)
Ein Stückchen weiter und einen nächsten Walk und schon ist man bei den Matai-Falls. (the Matai Falls which were along our way. It didn't rain much lately and I would assume the falls would be even more stunning if they carried more water with them.)
Abendliche Stimmung (this picture cost me one Sandfly bite. Once you stand still in the evening hours, our little friends find every spot of bare skin to bite into. But it was worth it, fog was settling in the bushes and rays of sunlight illuminated parts of the landscape.)
Am nächsten Tag kreuzten mal wieder zahllose Schafe unseren Weg... (sheep were blocking the road to Slope Point. They got onto a new meadow to eat fresh grass)
... oder könnt ihr sie zählen? Alle Schafe auf der Wiese waren vorher auf der kleinen Straße- unglaublich! (you certainly could have had a coffee until these hundreds of sheep passed the road)
Ein kleiner Abstecher an der Curio Bay vorbei zum Slope Point: der südlichste Punkt der Südinsel (we finally made it to Slope Point, the southern most point of New Zealand, Stewart Island not included of course. Well from now on we are on our way back to Wellington, going "home".)
*juhu*, da sind wir. Gar nicht mehr so weit bis zum Südpol.
Hier ist oft recht starker Westwind, was man deutlich an der Vegetation sieht (again we were very lucky in terms of the weather. Usually you would find a very rough sea with waves being several meters high and strong winds coming from the west. The tree down below is shaped by the persistent wind.)
und weiter gehts. Wir kamen uns schon vor wie in einem Hop on hop of Bus, ständig gab es irgendwas zu sehen... Hier sind wir am Waipapa Point- wieder mit einem schönen Leuchtturm ausgestattet. (our next destination was Waipapa Point. )
