being back from the Abel Tasman Region we decided to explore Nelson a bit more...
Am Fluss (merkt euch das Bild für später) (on our way from the parking lot to the city centre):

Links das I-Site, rechts das Rathaus (nicht sonderlich hübsch) (Nelson is a city that cares about its appearance. Flowers at a lamp post. The clock tower in the background is part of a council building...)
Ein großes Plus an Nelson: Der deutsche Metzger mit seinem Wurstwagen und LECKER Wurstsachen (haben wir ja schon eimmal erwähnt) (the first and maybe one and only "Wurstladen" in New Zealand. German Meatlof, German Sausages and other German food can be bought at this Wurstladen. Very yummy!!!):
Neue Art zu packen: Einfach in eine Post gehen und den ganzen Rucksack ausräumen. Säuberlich zusammen legen und alles was dann immer noch nicht in den Rucksack passt wird ins Päckchen gepackt und verschickt. (A very unique idea of sending packets. These two girls went into a post office, emptied their back packs and put almost everything back into it, of course neatly folded. What didn't fit went into a little packet and was sent home.)
Es gibt auch schöne Ecke in Nelson plus viel Sonnenschein und freundliche Leute, was die Stadt sehr nett und attraktiv für uns macht. (close to the church are lovely little cafés and restaurants which makes Nelson a nice place to be)
Vor uns liegt die Kathedrale (Nelsons church is right up the stairs):
Leider war das Geld alle bevor die Kirche fertig gebaut war. Darum wurde dann statt Takaka-Marmor nur noch Beton genutzt und die ursprünglich geplante Kirche etwas "zusammengestrichen". Somit sieht es ein bissel abgeschnitten oben aus. (the church in Nelson is a bit of a compromise, originally planned to be a church in Gothic style it ended up as a mixture of what was build when money was available and what was build when money was not really available. The roof is just flat (no money left) and the bell tower is rather not Gothic like but other parts followed the original idea of a Gothic style church.)
von innen ist die Kirche ganz nett und sie hat, ein großer Pluspunkt für mich, eine tolle Orgel!!! (luckily there was enough money for a very impressive organ with a great sound. We went to Sunday mass and enjoyed the organ and choir)
noch ein letzter Blick von der Seite, bevor es weiter geht... (you can see little spires, the rather odd roof and the bell tower)
... zur ältesten Straße Neuseelands (Nelson has the oldest street in New Zealand which is the South Street):
Eine enge Straße mit vielen kleinen, süßen, alten Häusern (some historic house are left in Sout Street):
süß hergerichtet (the people living in South street have a good sense for old style decorations)
und dekoriert (nicely decorated window sill)
Dann stand ein weiteres Highligt auf dem Programm: "Der Ring der Ringe"Hier in Nelson ist nämlich der Originalring der HDR-Trilogie designed worden. Seht selber (The "one ring" LotR, was designed in Nelson by Jens Hansen. We visited his gallery and were very impressed by the collection of rings which were used for the film):
doch es gab nicht nur DEN Ring der Ringe. Für den Film wurden viele Ringe in unterschiedlichen Größen hergestellt, damit jedem der Ring passt und für jede Szene der geeignete Ring vorhanden ist. Hier seht ihr das größte Modell (nein, er ist nicht komplett aus Gold) (this is the largest ring used in LotR. The film makers needed several sizes for different shots from different perspectives. The ring which Carina is holding is part steel and part gold.):
erinnert ihr euch noch an das Bild von gaaanz oben? Es ist der gleiche Fluss und fast die gleiche Persepektive. Ein gutes Beispiel was Ebbe und Flut so anstellen können (this picture shows the river from the first picture at low tide. Can rivers have tides???):
Um unseren Tag noch gut abzurunden sind wir abends noch Salsa tanzen gegangen (noch ein groooßer Pluspunkt an Nelson). Nach einer ganz witzigen Ruedea-Stunde und ein paar seltsamen Leuten, ging dann die Party los und wir konnten uns mal wieder die Füße wund tanzen *juhu* (Nelson is a great place to go Salsa dancing. A guy from Germany is giving classes and also organizes Salsa parties. You guessed right, of course we went to a Salsa party.)
auch die anderen hatten ihren Spaß (People danced Salsa either alone, together or individual freestyle. It was a great evening and everyone enjoyed it very much.):
