Das Otago Museum in Dunedin

Am nächsten Tag stand das Otago Museum auf dem Plan.
Ein wirklich sehr gutes Museum, in dem wir fast den ganzen Tag verbacht haben. (The Otago museum was up for today and we've spend almost an entire day in it. Well its huge and one of the best...)

Maori-Ausstellung (Maori exhibition, I took this picture because we hardly ever saw a couple embracing each other in Maori art):
a warrior in full armour, which is made of shells, weeds, shark teeth and more things you can find on an island
Tierausstellung (plenty of animals were on display):
a possum, which is quite cute although being dead. It's not like we don't see plenty of them, it's just that most of them are quite flat and very close to the road
People over the world exhibition (Ausstellung). This is an ivory figurine of the Daoist God of Longevity - Shoulao. There is a very interesting story to it you might want to look up at wikipedia.
Marine exhibition (Ausstellung) in the back are the bones of a whale:
the U.S.S Constitution and many other ship models could be seen
Das tollste für mich! Spielerisch lernen *g* (carina jumped into a bed of moveable nails and left an imprint)
Die Schmetterlingsausstellung war sehr beeindruckend. In einem riesen Gewächshaus bei weit über 30 Grad gab es viele lebende Schmetterlinge zu bewundern (a special exhibition in the museum was the rain forest, they had hundreds of different butterflies in all sizes and colors):
Niedliche Schildkröten- das dachte ich in diesem Moment zumindest noch!!! (those cute turtles were quite hungry)

Und dann passierte das Grausame! Die Schmetterlinge wurden von der Schildkröte eiskalt aufgefressen!!!!!!! Ich konnte gar nicht hinschauen- Natur kann echt grausam sein.
Also Leute, immer schön aufpassen, wenn ihr es euch in der Natur gemütlich macht ;o)

(and those butterfly's are quite happy with what they are doing. Too bad they were not very careful, when they came too close to the turtles one of them snapped them underwater and well... you can imagine the end of the story)

Regelmäßig spielen ist wichtig! (carina feels at home in the learn by playing section)
Auf dem Rückweg ging es noch an dem Bahnhof von Dunedin vorbei. Laut Aussage des I-Site Mannes das Gebäude, das am häufigsten fotografiert wird/wurde in Neuseeland. (According to an i-Site employee is this the most photographed building in New Zealand, the rail road station in Dunedin)

Dunedin Teil 1

Nach den Moeraki Boulders ging es weiter nach Dunedin. Mal wieder eine etwas größere Stadt mit 130.000 Einwohnern, aber trotzdem noch übersichtlich und gemütlich.
Hier merkt man -unter anderem in dem manchmal schwer zu verstehenden Englisch- den schottischen Einfluss.

Natur gibt es überall, auch mitten in der Stadt (I saw those while Carina was on the loo :-)):

Die Innenstadt von Dunedin zeigt sich als Octagon- ein Achteck in dem viele schöne alte Gebäude sind, Cafes und Kneipen und die Art Gallerie. (Dunedin boasts with old buildings and its unusual design of the city centre as an octagon. We haven't really found out why it was build like that yet)
Die Kathedrale St. Pauls ist auch direkt am Octagon plaziert. (St. Pauls in the city centre, quite big and very interesting architecture...)

... geht man jedoch in die Kathedrale hinein, sieht man auch viele moderne Elemente. (while the back is quite modern. This church combines the new and old)

Um 19.00 gab es noch einen Abendgottesdienst mit einem kleinen aber sehr gutem Chor, zu dem wir spontan gegangen sind. (we went to the 7pm mess and enjoyed the local church choir)

Eine letzte Nacht auf unserem Übernachtungsplatz bei Oamaru... (we just love to stay overnight close to the sea)... und ein letzter Blick vom Lookout auf die Stadt... (at the lookout point above Oamaru, its just a lovely, unique little town)
... bevor die Fahrt weiter ging an großen Feldern vorbei und direkt am Meer entlang... (quite unusual for us to see corn fields that close to the sea, the field below was harvested. We have seen it on our way to the Moeraki boulders)
... bis zu den Moeraki Boulders. (...and here they are)
Dies sind riesige, kugelförmige Steine, die einfach so dort am Strand liegen.
Die Maori-Legende besagt, dass es überreste des Kanus sind, dass hier strandete und zur Südinsel wurde. Die Insassen sind die Berge der Südinsel geworden. (you can see the boulders at low tide only, we were lucky to be there just in time. According to Maori history are these remnants of the great canoe which sank to form the south island)

Jedes Pärchen braucht ein Projekt...

... manche kaufen sich Hunde, Hamster oder Katzen, graben Gärten um oder gestalten Internetseiten. Neben letztgenanntem haben wir beschlossen unser Auto aufzuhübschen.
Wir hatten mit einigen Problemen zu kämpfen und waren 3 Tage damit beschäftigt (zum Glück immer nur ein paar Stunden am Tag).
Aber für ein nicht-profi Equipment und zwei jungfräuliche Sprayer waren wir gar nicht so schlecht... Seht selber:

Well, actually we wanted to paint our car since we bought it last year in mid October but we were just too busy driving it. Before our chances to paint it are gone we finally did so in Oamaru. Our car got a new design:
at the beginning, we had to cover up what's not supposed to be colored...
after three days and many visits to car shops, the Warehouse and Mitre... it turned out to be very nice at the end ;o) Isn't she lovely? Of course I mean both of them!
