Unfortunately we found only two people who were interested in our car but were looking for something younger. So we decided to go to Christchurch where more tourists start there tour through New Zealand. We drove through the Lewis Pass which lies in the heart of the southern Alps. Bad weather prevented us from taking too many pictures and therefore we stopped only a few times.

(Shortly before Christchurch it was time to eat - typical backpacker food - but also New Zealand breakfast - baked beans with sausages. Wish us look that we can sell our van for a good price in the next couple of days... I wish we could take her back to Germany *sniff* I'm sure she would be excited to see other parts of the world ;-) )

this was our second Salsa party in Nelson and Carina was going all nuts and couldn't wait to dance again. Similar to Germany it took a while till the dance floor was crowded. But soon you were looking for a spot to dance...

(the atmosphere was great, the music was perfect, the people going nuts)
everyone had a great time and was enjoying the party
Unser DJ Ulli sorge für die gute Musik (our DJ from Germany, he had a very good music mix and really made the party a good one)
Und wir brachten unsere Füße zum qualmen (a little break for our feed and time for a picture of us):
ein paar STunden später war die Tanzfläche immer noch voll, aber unsere Füße durchgetanzt und somit verließen wir dann irgendwann die Party um unseren Füßen etwas Erholung zu gönnen ;o) (after a couple of hours we had to admit that we are not training and our feet were happy to go home. I'm sure that'll change once we are back in Germany. It was a great evening and it was so good to dance again. :-) )

We liked Nelson even a bit more because of a very nice restaurant named Kraut's. They serve delicious German food in a "Biergarten" atmosphere. A 101 MUST-DO's for Germans ;-)
in München oder in Nelson? (dreaming of home...)
Ein anständiges Maß .... Apfelschorle! Köstlich, das Getränk ist fast unbekannt hier- und dabei sooo lecker ;o) (0.5L sparkling apple juice, so hard to find in New Zealand...)
Lecker Essen: Bratwurst, Sauerkraut und Kartoffelpü für die Frau, Käsespätzle für den Mann ;o) (Carina went for a Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and I went for the Käsespätzle. Yummy!!!)
völlig fertig und seelig *g* (happy and sated after some good food. New Zealanders don't be offended but food is a matter of taste and it is hard to argue about taste since everyone has his own. But I'm sure if you ever come to Germany and go to a good German cuisine, you will know what we have missed here.)
Schöne Malerei an einem Haus direkt am Meer (beautiful art at a building):
und dann ging es steil den Berg hinaus zum "Centre of New Zealand". (we have been to the most northern and southern point of New Zealand. And now we even went to the centre of New Zealand, which is up on a hill 147m above sea level. )
*schnauf*, endlich oben! (nicely done place...)
Aber dafür hatte man eine tolle Aussicht auf die Stadt und das Meer (with a great view on Nelson and its surrounding area):

Hier gehts in den chinesischen Garten (once we got down from the hill we went to the gardens in Nelson. They are rather small but do have a nice Chinese garden. ):
(well well, a wedding in a Chinese garden, sounds a bit familiar :-) It certainly is a nice place.)
Noch ein letzter Stop im Garten, bevor wir uns für unser Abendprogramm fertig machten ;o) (a fountain in the middle of the garden. Night time is coming and more...)

being back from the Abel Tasman Region we decided to explore Nelson a bit more...

Am Fluss (merkt euch das Bild für später) (on our way from the parking lot to the city centre):Blick in Richtung Innenstadt. (the same river from above but facing the city centre)
Links das I-Site, rechts das Rathaus (nicht sonderlich hübsch) (Nelson is a city that cares about its appearance. Flowers at a lamp post. The clock tower in the background is part of a council building...)
Ein großes Plus an Nelson: Der deutsche Metzger mit seinem Wurstwagen und LECKER Wurstsachen (haben wir ja schon eimmal erwähnt) (the first and maybe one and only "Wurstladen" in New Zealand. German Meatlof, German Sausages and other German food can be bought at this Wurstladen. Very yummy!!!):
(A very unique idea of sending packets. These two girls went into a post office, emptied their back packs and put almost everything back into it, of course neatly folded. What didn't fit went into a little packet and was sent home.)
(close to the church are lovely little cafés and restaurants which makes Nelson a nice place to be)
Vor uns liegt die Kathedrale (Nelsons church is right up the stairs):
(the church in Nelson is a bit of a compromise, originally planned to be a church in Gothic style it ended up as a mixture of what was build when money was available and what was build when money was not really available. The roof is just flat (no money left) and the bell tower is rather not Gothic like but other parts followed the original idea of a Gothic style church.)
(luckily there was enough money for a very impressive organ with a great sound. We went to Sunday mass and enjoyed the organ and choir)
(you can see little spires, the rather odd roof and the bell tower)
... zur ältesten Straße Neuseelands (Nelson has the oldest street in New Zealand which is the South Street):
Eine enge Straße mit vielen kleinen, süßen, alten Häusern (some historic house are left in Sout Street):

süß hergerichtet (the people living in South street have a good sense for old style decorations)
Seht selber (The "one ring" LotR, was designed in Nelson by Jens Hansen. We visited his gallery and were very impressed by the collection of rings which were used for the film):
The film makers needed several sizes for different shots from different perspectives. The ring which Carina is holding is part steel and part gold.):
Ein gutes Beispiel was Ebbe und Flut so anstellen können (this picture shows the river from the first picture at low tide. Can rivers have tides???):
A guy from Germany is giving classes and also organizes Salsa parties. You guessed right, of course we went to a Salsa party.)
auch die anderen hatten ihren Spaß (People danced Salsa either alone, together or individual freestyle. It was a great evening and everyone enjoyed it very much.):
