Dort verbrachten wir ein paar Tage um uns die Gegend anzusehen. Am Lake Tekapo ist eine der besten Observatorien der südlichen Hemnisphäre mit einem 7 Mio dollar Teleskop. Und dort gibt es eine tolle Möglichkeit Sterne zu photographieren. Mein kleiner Sternengucker war also ganz hin und weg und wollte unbedingt die Sternentour dort machen. Leider machte uns nur das Wetter immer wieder einen Strich durch die Rechnung, indem es ständig bewölkt war und somit keine Sterne anzusehen waren...
Wir nutzen aber die Zeit um ein bissel zu wandern und uns die Gegend anzusehen.
Dann entschlossen wir uns erst mal weiter zum Mt. Cook zu fahren und ein paar Tage später noch mal zurück zu kommen, um dann hoffentlich Sterne zu sehen.
After leaving Edoras and the riders of Rohan behind we drove through Geraldine all the way to Lake Tekapo which lies in the Mackenzie Country. You might want to google the Mackenzie Country and find out why it is called like that... Lake Tekapo is known to many astronomers as the region offers easy access to a well situated observatory on Mt. John which has a seven million dollar telescope on top. Anyways the bad weather was following us or we were following the bad weather and we therefore didn't get a chance to see the night sky or book a star gazing tour. Thus we decided to do some walks and drive on to Mt. Cook.
Der größte Pulli der Welt (steht im Guinessbuch der Rekorde) hängt in Geraldine. (On our way from Edoras to Lake Tekapo we stopped in Geraldine and had a look at the largest sweater of the world. We even had a look at a medieval mosaic which you should look up at www.1066.co.nz it is a piece of math, art and history which took 25 years to complete)

Wir hatten Glück und haben ein paar Sonnenstrahlen genießen dürfen. (we had a chance to enjoy a couple of sunrays before the clouds covered the sky for the rest of the evening)
Vom Mt. John (1000m über nN) hatte man einen tollen Blick auf die Region. Hier ein Blick auf den etwas kleineren See Lake Alexandrina, an dem wir auch übernachtet haben. (we quickly drove up Mt. John to get a 360 degree view over the area. Down below is lake Alexandrina where we stayed for the night)

Abendstimmung am Lake Tekapo. Hermann (hinter mir im grünen Pulli) ist auch aus Deutschland und für 7 Monate in NZ. Wir haben ihn auf dem Weg nach Edoras kennen gelernt und sind ein paar Tage zusammen herumgereist.Er kann sehr gut Gitarre spielen und hat die schöne Kulisse noch musikalisch untermalt.

Am nächsten Tag sind wir trotz zeitweise Nieselregen den Wanderweg zum Mt John hoch und am Seeufer entlang gelaufen. (On the next day we decided to walk up Mt. John. )

Weiter gehts den Wanderweg entlang zum See hinunter. Gute 300 Höhenmeter liegen zwischen Mt. John und See. (on our way down from Mt. John we hiked along the lake and met nice people from all over the world)
