Nach Edoras

Auch wenn das Wetter nicht besonders war entschlossen wir uns dennoch endlich weiter zu fahren. Wir waren lange genug in Christchurch. Und somit begann unsere Fahrt wieder- gleich mit der Suche nach einem bekannten Spot von Herr der Ringe- Edoras.
Schön gelegen mitten in der Pampa!

After a couple of days in Christchurch and not too much good weather, we decided it was time to get going again. Our next destination was Erewohn or Edoras well known to Lord of the Rings fans. The LotR crew really did a great job locating incredible places for the movie. Once you drive into the vast valley of Edoras, you are overwhelmed by the view you get. Unfortunately the pictures don't even come close to the original. The weather intensified the remoteness of this very lonely place. But let's start with our trip from Christchurch to Edoras and beyond...

Unser Weg führte uns an vielen schönen Spots entlang. (Once the snow starts melting, these incredible hughe riverbeds are completely filled with bright blue water. The valley below is 1 or 2 km across)
Das Wasser in diesem Fluss hat eine einmalig trüb-himmelblaue Farbe. (the only bridge and only way to get across at a very narrow place)
Auf zu dem Mt Potts. (that's our way to Edoras :-) )
Irgendwann mussten wir die geteerten Straßen verlassen und uns auf die Gravelroad begeben. Immer mit vielen Wolken um uns herum, aber zumindest noch ohne Regen! Die Wolken hatten auch etwas dramatisches. (after we left the main road, a few kilometers later we were welcomed by a gravelroad and "wild country")

Am Lake Clearwater legten wir eine kurze Essenspause ein. (lake clearwater is the last place where a couple of houses are, after that it's just gravelroad and a beautiful country)
Dann ging es weiter durch schöne Landschaft und Berge und Schluchten (right infront of us lies Edoras, once we drive down that road we are right in the middle of it)
Jürgen musste alles genau festhalten- Digital und analog! (of course pictures had to be taken now even in the analog format)
Dort ragt uns Edoras entgegen. Selbst in dem Dunst war der Berg gut zu erkennen. (this is the hill where the town Edoras and the hall of King Theoden was build upon. The riders of Rohan once roamed this country. It's just too bad that absolutely nothing is left of it)
Auf ging es in das Tal (the above shot was zoomed in, so we weren't exactly there yet. But you can make out that hill on the picture below - right side)
Über Flüsse (we crossed wide river beds which luckily were not completely filled with water yet)
Bis wir endlich dort waren! (... until we finally stood in front of the remains of Edoras)
Bevor es anfing zu regnet hat der Himmel uns noch einen Gefallen getan und einmal die Wolken über Edoras gelüftet, so dass ein schöner Sonnenstrahl direkt darauf fiel. (after a light shower the sun magically broke through the clouds and illuminated Edoras)
Dann machten wir uns auch wieder auf den Weg die Gravelroad zurück- unter ständiger Beobachtung diverser Tiere. Hier fanden uns grade tausend Schafe sehr interessant. (so far we have seen plenty of sheep on the north island but never so many on such a small place, we did feel a little bit looked at or is it just them)
