Queenstown ist eine sehr "hippe" Stadt und trotz der nur knapp 8000 Einwohner an mancher Stelle wuseliger als Auckland. Kein Wunder, denn hier kommen zahlreiche Touris her, um an ihre Grenzen zu gehen. Queenstown war der Ort, an dem der erste kommerzielle Bungeesprung stattfand. Und was Adventure und Abenteuer angeht kommt man in Queenstown voll auf seine Kosten.
Für ein frisch verheiratetes und gesetztes Pärchen wie uns (die auch grade kein Geld für übermäßig viel Adventure haben *g*) ist es aber ein sehr gemischter Platz.
Die Innenstadt ist ganz nett und gemütlich und es gibt eine Bib zum Akkus laden (für uns ja immer gaaanz wichtig), aber ansonsten ist Queenstown auch sehr anstrengend. Wir werden berichten ;o)
(After leaving the Fiordland we were moving on to Queenstown. We could have taken a couple of detours to see some lakes between Te Anau and Queenstown but this time we figured let's just stay on the paved road :-) So we passed by Kingston and hoped to see the Kingston Flyer which is a historic steam powered train. Well, it only arrives twice at the train station below and we weren't there at the appropriate time... )
In Kingston fährt eine historische Dampflock. Leider konnten wir nur den Bahnhof sehen, da der Zug unterwegs war. Und ein zwei Lokomotiven, die auf dem Abstellgleis standen.
Dafür hatte hier jemand eine witzige Idee bei der Zaungestaltung (but we took a picture of the wheel makers :-) pretty neat fence you must admit):
... weiter gehts an den Lake Wakatipu. Er ist ganz schön lang und somit hatten wir eine schöne Fahrt an der Uferprommenade entlang mit kleineren Stops (since Kingston lies at the southern tip of Lake Wakatipu we had a chance to take our first pictures of this part of New Zealand):
Unser Zitronenbaum (und Jürgens ganzer Stolz, man achte auf die kleine Zitrone unten und die Blüten!!!) durfte auch etwas frische Luft schnappen (I guess we never really told you that we have a little lemon tree in our car. It was sort of a Christmas present and I believe you need to have plants around you to feel at home. As you can see our little tree is doing very well, a little lemon is growing and new blossoms are flowering. Before we leave New Zealand we hope to plant it somewhere and hope it will keep growing.):
In Queenstown (we did our first walk around Queenstown. It is actually a nice little town with wonderful mountains surrounding it and a lake right at the door step. But you can very much say that Queenstown is the tourist capital in New Zealand. It certainly is as busy as Auckland and offers a lot of fun adventures. I guess Carina and me are not exactly the "I pay a lot of money to get the thrills" kinda type. So Queenstown is along with no freedom camp sites rather uninteresting for us. Therefore we spend most of the time in the library catching up with our blog, doing some paperwork concerning our marriage certificate and things like that.):
Möwen sind überall, aber hier wirklich sehr zahlreich vertreten. Das passte uns sehr gut, weil unser Abendessen (Fish & Chips) sehr ekelig-fettig war und wir nicht mal die Hälfte gegessen haben. Gut, dass Möwen nicht so wählerisch sind wie wir ;o) (We were looking for something to eat and came to one fish&chips place right at the harbour. It's just a small rather round wooden hut, selling a big box of fish and chips for a few bucks. I can tell you, save yourself the money and go look somewhere else. The fish & chips were horrible, you couldn't really distinguish the frying oil from the fish and chips. Well luckily the money wasn't completely wasted and we fed the local birds, literally hundreds of them as you might see on the picture below.)

Das historische Dampfschiff die TSS Earnslow ist eine sehr bekannte und beliebte Touri-Attraktion. Wir haben uns allerdings dagegea entschieden. Eine historische Dampferfahrt hatten wir schon auf der Nordinsel ;o) (The TSS Earnslaw is an old steam powered boat cruising Lake Wakatipu)
