Besides the Puzzling World, Wanaka has to offer lots of other places to go to. Warbirds over Wanaka is a festival which attracts hundred thousands of people every year to see Warbirds fly over Wanaka doing acrobatics and battle scenes. A transportation and toy museum displays the collection of one very active collector who owns thousands of toys and transportation vehicles and planes. We decided to see some nature and went along the lake front and drove of to Cardrona. The Lonely Planet told us something about a bra-fence and the most beautiful road in the South Island as well as the oldest Hotel in New Zealand. That certainly got our attention and here we go...

Außerdem gibt es eine "Abkürzungsstraße" von hier nach Queenstwon, die laut Lonely Planet die schönste der Nordinsel sein sollte. Da außerdem der Bra-Fence dort sein sollte, beschlossen wir kurzerhand ein Stückchen dieser Straße zu fahren.Die Cardrona Road, Aussichtsplattform (hinten in der Mulde liegt Queenstown) (it is kinda bad that we didn't find the bra fence on our way. This tree is standing at a very nice lookout where you could see Queenstown.):
Die Straße entpuppte sich als ganz schön, aber wir haben auch zweifellos schon schönere Straßen hier auf der Südinsel befahren... (I guess the country looks quite pretty around here but the Lonely Planet must be somehow mistaken. I certainly is not the most beautiful road in the South Island)
Trotzdem haben wir die Fahrt genossen (anyways, we enjoyed ourselves)
hässlich war es ja nun auch nicht ;o) (there was not much around and we drove back to Cardrona)
Außerdem gibt es hier das "berühmte" Cadrona Hotel, dass als Vorlage/Inspiration für die Kneipe "Tänzelnde Pony" aus HDR hergehalten hat. (we did find the oldest hotel in New Zealand. Which could, if you went inside, remind you of the "prancing pony" LotR)
Viel mehr gab es allerdings auch nicht zu sehen und somit ging es wieder zurück nach Wanaka und weiter gen Norden... (as mentioned before we didn't find the bra-fence which was supposed to be a collection of the hundreds of bras which people put on a fence. Prudish as most english people are there was a great debate whether this eyesore should be removed or not. Well they managed to remove it, although the owner of the fence was not bothered by it at all. I guess its just the prudish government and some locals who wanted to get rid of it. Actually in a country that lives off tourism, why do they remove attractions???)
